NH storyteller Jo Putnam visits the Corner House Inn’s Storytelling Dinner program on Thursday evening, March 4th. Jo’s vibrant, heartfelt, down-to-earth stories spring from a lifetime's wealth of experiences as teacher, writer, workshop designer, environmentalist, widely-traveled army wife, camp counselor, mother and grandmother. A native of northern Illinois, Jo's mid-western roots were the fodder for her Mid-Western Cowgirl stories. Other stories were fueled while volunteering as a loon observer and wolf tracker with the Sigurd Olsen Environmental Institute. Listening to and observing people and the natural world is an ongoing inspiration for her story creation.
She says “Stories are ageless and evergreen…stories connect us to each other, ourselves, our heritage, other cultures, creation, live, the universe…everything! Stories enlighten, enliven, inspire, instruct, and heal. Stories breathe life…imaginatively…with joy, laughter, tears and love.”
Thursday March 4th’s storytelling program will include a few stories, poems and songs “to bring smiles to our faces…and love into our lives." Storytelling Dinners are held every Thursday evening at the Corner House in Center Sandwich from late Oct. through May. Dinner begins at 6:30 pm, and the cost is $19.95 per person, plus tax and gratuity. For more information and reservations contact the Corner House Inn at 284-6219, or online at info@cornerhouseinn.com.

Renowned storyteller-comedian Jackson Gillman, known as the “Stand-Up Chameleon” appears Thursday evening, March 25th at the Corner House Inn’s Thursday Storytelling Dinner in Center Sandwich. Jackson has been performing before live audiences for the past three decades. Most of that time, he was based on Maine’s Mt. Desert Island but now makes his home in Onset, Massachusetts. Jackson is a perennial favorite at the Corner House, returning each time with new material. Jackson is very adept at getting audience members to participate, without embarrassing them!
Jackson has been described as both a “zany kind of comic mutant” by Maine Public Broadcasting, and a “compelling, master storyteller” by the Christian Science Monitor. But Gillman is not a storyteller in the traditional sense. He uses mime, dance, song, dialect and even sign language to create an intimate style of theater. His performance roots are in cabaret, but Jackson has made a name for himself in the storytelling world and was recently a Teller-In-Residence at the International Storytelling Center.
Says Gillman: “I like the idea of getting older and having this wealth of stories. I imagine myself an old man with thousands of stories, a story for every occasion.”
The evening promises to be very lively and fun, spiced up with interactive music and comedy. The storytelling dinner begins at 6:30 pm and the cost is $19.95 per person, plus tax and gratuity. For further information and reservations contact the Corner House Inn in Center Sandwich at 284-6219 or online at info@cornerhouseinn.com .
