NEW HAMPSHIRE VOLUNTEERS RECOUNT THEIR TIME SPENT IN EARTHQUAKE-RAVAGED HAITI
Dr. John Bentwood, Cathy Bentwood, R.N., Carolyn Brown, R.N. and Alex Ray, owner of the Common Man Family, to show footage of their journey and hold question and answer session
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Four New Hampshire volunteers who traveled to earthquake-ravaged Haiti to provide medical assistance and support to victims will recount their journey with a question and answer session and moving video of their travels at the Flying Monkey Movie House and Performance Center in Plymouth this Sunday.
Common Man Vice President Diane Downing has organized the event to honor local volunteers Dr. John Bentwood and his wife Cathy Bentwood, R.N. of Plymouth, nurse Carolyn Brown of Moultonborough, and Common Man owner Alex Ray of Holderness. A buffet dinner, movie and discussion about their experiences in Haiti begins at 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 28.
Dr. John Bentwood is a general surgeon and humanitarian who practices out of both Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth and Franklin Regional Hospital in Franklin. His wife Cathy is a humanitarian and the director of Bridge House in Plymouth, which focuses on providing shelter and programs for the homeless. Brown, who is the Clinical Coordinator of Emergency Services at Franklin Regional Hospital, was able to go on the trip thanks to the generosity of her co-workers who donated their vacation time to her. Ray is the owner and founder of The Common Man family of restaurants, and is well known for charitable works and volunteer efforts put forth both personally and by his team of employees.
Each will share their individual experiences, from performing medical procedures, to distributing food, to converting homes into clinics to meet the needs of an overwhelming number of victims, much of which is captured in moving photos and emotional video clips.
Admission to the event is $15 and includes a buffet dinner prepared by The Common Man family of restaurants, the movie and discussion session. The group will be seeking additional donations which will be added to the monies collected from admission to the event, and donated to charities assisting victims in Haiti.
